Staff policies

An organisation or service can demonstrate its commitment to equalities in the way it treats its potential and existing staff and volunteers.  There are a number of documents which you can develop which will show this commitment, and support you embed equalities.

Harassment and Discrimination Policies
It is important to make sure that staff and volunteers have the opportunity to work in a good environment in which they are free from harassment, bullying and discrimination.

These policies should be widely available to all staff and potential recruits.  They should set out how staff are expected to behave and how inappropriate behaviours will be dealt with.

Recruitment Policies
An organisation which is committed to equalities can demonstrate this through their approach to recruitment, and by having a diverse workforce.  Equalities should be reflected in existing recruitment policies.  It is especially important to recognise and take account of barriers for particular groups in applying for jobs.
