Understanding your impact

As well as assessing potential impact at the beginning, it is also important to understand the impact of your activities once these have begun.  Measuring success is important as it:

  • recognises the progress you have made in engaging and meeting the needs of people in equalities groups;
  • identifies strengths you can build on and where improvement is needed;
  • identifies what you can do to make things better for equalities groups so that you can constantly improve; and
  • helps explain to others – partner organisations, colleagues, and communities themselves – how you are doing.

In order to successfully evaluate the impact of your activities on equalities groups it is important to build evaluation into the plan from the beginning.
