Overcoming barriers

When making your existing promotional activities more accessible to all equalities groups, or targeting a particular community, you should think carefully about the barriers people might encounter in finding out about your services.  For example, barriers might include:

  • you are only advertising in places where certain equalities groups might not go;
  • you are working with services certain equalities groups might not use; or
  • the language you are using is not appropriate.

It is also essential to draw out key messages of importance to particular groups.  For example, the venue you use might be accessible for wheelchair users, but that might not be obvious.
